Marketing Insights provides daily monitoring of Amazon price and discounting for active titles in your catalog. The most recent price and discount data can be found in the Amazon Snapshot panel, and detailed price history (since we began monitoring your title) can be found alongside the overall Amazon sales rank in the Amazon Price & Performance chart.
We track two key consumer-facing price points for all titles:
- Amazon price: This is always Amazon’s stated sale price to the end consumer, not including any special programs like Kindle Unlimited. This price may change based on promotions or discounts offered by the publisher and/or by Amazon.
- List price: This is the “strike-through” list price that Amazon displays to the consumer on a product detail page.
The way we determine and track list price can differ based on the format of the book and the terms of sale between the publisher and Amazon.
Print books
For print books, the displayed list price is always the manufacturer's suggested retail price for that edition.

Ebooks
There are a few different scenarios for ebooks based on the terms of sale between Amazon and the publisher (agency versus wholesale), whether or not there is a corresponding print edition of the ebook, and whether or not the ebook is currently being discounted.
- For wholesale ebooks with a corresponding print edition, Amazon displays both a digital list price and a print list price. We tracks the digital list price in the trending chart.
- For wholesale ebooks without a print edition, Amazon displays only a digital list price.
- For agency ebooks, the displayed list price is typically the list price of the prevailing print edition.
- For ebooks without a print edition and that are not currently being discounted, Amazon does not display a list price. In this case, the list price will be the same as the consumer price.
Note that the discount percentage in the Amazon Snapshot is always determined by the discount amount Amazon displays on the product detail page.
